Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
